Ellie Beans Feature & Giveaway

I fell in love with Ellie Beans’ adorable girls’ dresses the moment I laid eyes on them. They are just the right amount of vintage, bright and fun. Gabriella was happy to model a couple of them, and she really got into the spirit of her little roadside wildflower stand. Frankly, I’m about to overload you with images from our session, but I really just can’t help myself. When a toddler is willing to sit in one place for 45 minutes straight, the trigger finger gets very happy.:-)

Sweet Rosalie

Baby Rosalie’s mommy was the fabulous winner of my January session giveaway. I was so excited to find out that we would be doing a newborn session – I absolutely adore photographing newborns and have accumulated quite the prop collection over the last few months! Rose was 6 days old at the time of this session and while she tried to resist my sleep-inducing tactics at first, once she finally got to sleep she snoozed away like a little champ. Without further ado, here’s the little princess…

This last one’s a little bit of a departure from my usual newborn style, but I just felt this image was begging to be vintagefied. What, that can be a word, right?

Sarah SwiftApril 3, 2012 - 5:04 pm

OBSESSED!!!

4

4 years ago today we said we would, and we do. I thought I’d write you a rap to the beat of Ice Cube’s ‘Friday’, but, well… that didn’t work out. There are some things I can do well, but I suppose rapping isn’t one of them. Thank you for being the yin to my yang, the zig to my zag, the salami to my pastrami. I love you for so much more than you can ever imagine. Cheers to 7 years of us and 4 years of Us. <3

Bottega Louie – Los Angeles

Last weekend my adoring hubby decided to whisk me off to a charming french cafe to express to me his utter delight and appreciation for my presence in his life.

Fine, fine. I dragged him out to downtown L.A. to scour the fashion district for newborn props. After a few hours he was ravenous and I remembered a charming restaurant that I had been meaning to explore. See, the restaurant’s still charming and thus I will stick to story #1 for now. We had a fabulous lunch/early dinner (“dunch”) at Bottega Louie, and picked up some macaroons to take home because the box was pretty (I’m a sucker for gorgeous packaging), and because they were pretty. And I like to eat pretty things too you know.

I couldn’t inhale these without taking a few shots of them first, so here’re the macaroons in all their glory.

I must add that their French Onion soup is just blissful. I’m on a perpetual mission to find the best French Onion soup in life, and have 2 favorites, both utterly inaccessible to me. 1 – Ruth’s Chris, which has decided to take it OFF their menu (!!) and 2 – Lahaina Grill, which is on Maui. If you know of anyplace in Southern California with amazing FOS, please, pretty please let me know of it!:-)

What the Crop?

I couldn’t help myself. Alternate titles included: “Crop it to Me” and “Hip Crop Hooray”. I’d better get on with it before I come up with more and you all run away.

You’re probably long familiar with the traditional 8×10 print. You might have even noticed that when you’ve tried to print an 8×10, a portion of the image has had to be lopped off. It’s unavoidable, and quite a few of the “typical” print sizes actually require quite a bit of image cropping. I’ve put together a little visual guide to understanding just how much of an original (4×6 aspect ratio format) image is lost, so to speak when cropping.

Yep, that 8×10 and 20×24 sure lose quite a bit from the original, don’t they? I do generally keep image ratios in mind when shooting, to allow for cropping later. I do also offer prints in sizes such as 8×12 and 12×18 as well. And the days of only finding frames in size 8×10 are long over. I also offer Organic Bloom frames in every custom size imaginable.

See, now, that wasn’t too croppy, was it?;-)

Special thank you to Rachael Myers Photography for offering these awesome templates for photographers. Check her out!
