TELLING STORIES OF

LOVE

Merrick | 19 Days New | Thousand Oaks Newborn Photographer

I was so happy to squeeze in Merrick’s session at the last minute. Even though he was a few days past the “ideal” newborn age, he slept like a champ for me, and we got some fantastic expressions out of him when he did have a little bit of awake time. This session was all about soft, soothing neutrals, my absolute favorite aesthetic for newborn sessions. Classic and timeless is what I always strive for when photographing babies. I really do get emotional thinking about the journey these images will go on later in these babies’ lives. Albums might be shared with future girlfriends, and one day grandchildren. A box of prints will be uncovered and admired during a move. Or, you know, they might just click on a file and open up a slideshow on their computer. Technology, sheesh. Perfect time to remind y’all to always, always, back up your images to a few sources! You never know when your computer will go kaput! But I digress…

My business celebrates its 5th anniversary this month. I really didn’t anticipate back then, typing away at my first blog posts in our old home in Simi Valley, what would come of this fledgling little idea of mine to harness my passion into a service for others. I knew I loved babies, loved capturing all of their little details, the wisps of that downy hair, those precious tiny fingers. I hoped to be given the honor by a few people to preserve their babies first days with a tangible memory to have forever. Now I’ve photographed hundreds of babies and am thankful each and every time for the blessing of doing what I love. This year I photographed my first THIRD sibling newborn session (Baby #1 in 2012, #2 in 2014 and #3 in May of this year). I hope to one day photograph the newborns of my newborn clients. Oh, that will just send me over the top in an emotional tailspin, but what a privilege to see these little humans grow up and become full fledged people with ideas and thoughts! I do wonder what newborn photography will look like in the year 2031. Will we be posing babies on their personal robot nannies? Hopefully the light, airy look sticks around. 😉
